Building Community Origami Style

On Tuesday March 19th the Women (and Men) of Women in Design (WiD) met at Teammates showroom to learn the Japanese art of folding paper, origami.  The flower we created was a lily, which is an intermediate origami fold, so we broke into groups and went step by step, folding multiple sheets of paper for each step. Everyone seemed to pick it up pretty quickly and the bouquet flourished. There was lots of socializing and

We also had two prizes to be giving away to participants at the event. Congrats to our two winners; a Teknion Conflex desk lamp:

Carmen Schechinger and Teknion Fits chair to Kay Wilson. Thank you to our sponsor, Caven Hill with Teknion.bits of frustration but overall everyone had a great time.

Everyone took a few of their flowers home and the rest were used to put together a bouquet on the recycled SIP panel from the Habitat for Humanity build day. This is our way of “paying it forward” to the Habitat project – using leftover materials to create a unique piece of art that will look good in any environment. These also can be a memory keep-sake, by making the flowers out of pictures from a build day.

Our goal is to make and sell enough of these to purchase an IKEA kitchen for one of the duplexes. We will be selling and advertising for these at all of our events. If your interested in purcahsing one please contact widinfo@widdenver.org
