Every year Women in Design selects a theme to gear our activities and events around. We strive to encompass our values, as well as embody the diverse community WiD reperesents. Our focus this year is to bring attention to all the related fields of the construction industry, not just architecture and design. We are a community of women in construction. That includes engineers, landscape architects and everything in between. Therefore, our theme for 2014 is “Bridging the Trades: Linking People and Places.”
The date is Wednesday, April 23rd, at Converge Denver (3327 Brighton Blvd., Denver, CO 80216) in the RINO neighborhood.
We have chosen eight speakers who have completed a project in Denver or whose work impacts the community. Each will give an eight minute presentation that focuses on how their individual trade/project links people and places within our communities.
Speakers, from Downtown Denver Partnerships, CRL Associates, and RTD have been involved in the high profile Denver Union Station project, which brought together diverse elements of landscape design, architecture, engineering, public users, and community groups. Others will speak about providing community resources, like GreenSpot Global, Denver B Cycle bike sharing system, and DenverInfill.com (a blog and community bulletin board created to track the numerous urban infill developments in downtown Denver). The remaining two are consulting resources for community organizers. One is comprehensive – Stantec, includes planners, designers, engineers, surveying, environmental sciences, project management, and project economics – and specialist consultant – Art House Design, handles everything from wayfinding to comprehensive signage plans.
Please join us again this year! Buy your ticket now, as this event sold out last year! Mark it on your calendar, put it in your phone, and bring co-workers, bosses, or anyone who needs an inspirational evening. See you there!
