Habitat for Humanity Design-Build Progress

Women in Design members Molly Blakley and Kathy Ford are two of the four team members of the Flexplex Design Team who won the AIA Denver/Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity Design-Build Competition (http://aiacolorado.org/aboutus/LocalChapters/AiaDenver/HabitatforHumanityCompetition.aspx) for a duplex in Kittredge, CO. This post is a teaser, but check out the competition link and we’ll have more information soon to let you know how and when you can get involved in this fun project!

This month we are wrapping up the CDs and Civil has already been submitted to the county. Donations of money and products have been pouring in, with still more needed. If you think your company would like to donate products or money please leave a comment or talk to us at an event!

We are very close to meeting the 2030 Challenge (http://www.architecture2030.org/) and if we can finance the designed PV and Solar Thermal systems, we will likely get there. WiD will have some build days this summer and we hope to see many of you there. It is one thing to draw a structure and an entirely other thing to build one. It’s a great learning opportunity as well as a good way to spend some time giving back to our community and making new friends.

You can help raise support the fundraiser efforts by purchasing a ticket to the Colorado Rapids vs. Club Deportivo Chivas USA on Saturday, April 28th.  $5 of each ticket will be donated to the building of the duplex.  Please see the flyer for more information.
