Women Powering Change

Feb. 12th 2020

Tuesday, March 10th 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

EXDO Events Center

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of Amendment 19, which gave women the right to vote. Women banded together and worked hard for decades to get Amendment 19 passed because they knew that voting equality would improve the lives of all citizens in our country. Today, women remain at the forefront of organizations and initiatives aimed at creating a better world for all.

Come see what these powerful groups led by women are doing at Women Powering Change 2020. Join us on March 10th at EXDO Event Center from 4-7pm for the only event that brings together more than 1,000 community members, leaders, activists, and philanthropists with more than 100 Colorado organizations to showcase what’s being done to catalyze social change locally and globally to create a better world.

This is the place for individual donors, activists, and those new to philanthropy to meet others working passionately to create change – from sustainability to social justice to gender equity.

Women Powering Change 2020 is free for guests and open to the public, but registration is required and space is limited. Learn more and register at womenpoweringchange.org.

Prost Brewery Tour Draws a Thirsty Crowd of Designers

Oct. 28th 2012

A big thank you to all of those that bared the rain on Wednesday and joined us for our Fall Oktoberfest Networking Hour at the Prost Brewing Company that opened late this summer.

Once everyone got settled in and grabbed a beverage we had a tour of the brewery where all the magic happens. Prost focuses on German lagers which are rare to Denver breweries. This brewing takes longer and they use two large copper kettles to begin the brewing process, which were shipped over here from Germany to give that authentic German taste to all their beers. It was quite interesting to talk to the owner of the brewery as he was highly involved in the construction and starting up of this brewery. After the tour WiD members mingled around the equipment and enjoyed their freshly brewed beers.

Check out more pictures on our Facebook page!

Calling All Do-It-Yourselfers, Artists, Teachers…and more!

Oct. 10th 2012

FREE MATERIALS for upcycling…courtesy of ZeroLandfill Denver.  2 Days Only!

You will be received with a smile and sleep better at night!

If that isn’t enough to get a creative soul interested to learn more, perhaps this will help:

  • ZeroLandfill is a national initiative that is committed to reducing pressure on local landfill capacity specifically targeting Architecture, Engineering and Interior Design firms and their material samples.
  • In their initial effort this past Spring, the local chapter, ZeroLandfill Denver, diverted 9000 pounds of waste from landfills. WOW!
  • In their second effort, (happening now) the materials have already been collected and just need to be picked up for upcycling.
  • Hundreds of pounds of ceramic tiles, carpet samples, binders, fabric, etc. are waiting to be claimed and have their lives extended so they don’t unnecessarily head off to the landfill.

The pickup location is Design Materials Will Call, 10498 East 49th Avenue, Denver on Friday, October 12th or 19th from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

Zero Landfill Denver & Cultivate Days

Jan. 27th 2012

This year as part of Women in Design's outreach effort we are sponsoring and volunteering for Denver's new Zero Landfill project.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email ZeroLandfillDenver@gmail.com.

ZeroLandfillTM is a grassroots upcycling or reuse program started in Cleveland, Ohio in 2006 by individuals working in the architectural and interior design industry. Concerned by the lack of a formal recycling program for the staggering amount of specification materials used in the facility design and renovation processes, the ZeroLandfillTM team developed a program to divert these items from the waste stream and find new audiences in the community who placed value in the materials.

Springtime for WiD and Colorado

Mar. 21st 2011

Did you know this website has a blog? We like to put up occasional posts that we think will interest you. Today, for example, you can read a great article by Jennifer Gray about International Women's Day and WiD. We hope you'll drop by when you have a minute or two and see what we've been up to!
Speaking of things we're up to, here are the next few events we have scheduled:

4/5/11  Canvas & Cocktails with WiD (have fun painting and hanging out with other WiD members)
4/9/11 Members Only Event: Spring Hike ("I love to go a-wandering, along the mountain track! And as I go, I love to sing, my knapsack on my back. Valderie! Valdera! Valderie! Valdera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!")
4/16/11 AIA's Box City: A great opportunity to volunteer, help some kids, and get an IDP hour or three. Being a member of AIA is NOT required!

WiD in the World

Feb. 16th 2011

Have you been to a WiD trivia night lately? They're once a month at the Irish Snug and you wear the color of the month? If you have, I'm pretty sure you'd remember Meg Kullerd, the organizer -- bubbly, smart, great laugh. Turns out she writes too. Last month, she had an article on the AIA Colorado Emerging Professionals Blog. It's titled: "Working the Market– Dating and Job Searching". Check it out, and keep your eyes and ears open for the next WiD Trivia Night. There'll be one in March and everyone, WiD members and WiD-curious alike, are invited!
If you're also interested in volunteering, check out our next volunteer opportunity on March 12th. Wid on the Farm!

2011 Plans Discussed at WiD Retreat

Aug. 31st 2010

This Sunday, the Wid Steering Committee met for 7 hours to gear up for next year's efforts.  We had  elections for committee chairs, examined what worked and what didn't during the past year, ate well, and set our goals for 2011.  The Events Committee will be expanding on the concept of the popular Hard Hat Tours and the Networking Committee is thinking outside the box.  Yes, there will be a return of the kickball!  The Outreach Committee is continuing to focus on mentoring.  The Communications Committee will be enlivening this site with blog (fun and casual) and news (informative) items.  If you're interested in being a part of what makes WiD tick, let us know. Once you become a WiD member, email us a request at membership@widdenver.org and we’ll send you the information on the next Steering Committee Meeting so you can join us.

WiD Revamps Website Structure

Jul. 30th 2010

Welcome to WiD's new, restructured website!  It's the same beautiful design done for us by Steidley Design, LLC, but with a smooth running WordPress structure beneath, developed by Shompton LLC.  While we are ironing out the "new website wrinkles," we appreciate your patience and feedback, but it'll all be worth it for the enhanced membership functions, the ability to pre-pay for upcoming events and classes, and a more intuitively organized site.  If you have any comments or concerns, feel free to contact us at info@widdenver.org.

We've got lots of plans for a members only section of the site, but for now we're focusing on getting what we have working smoothly for our members and our volunteers.   In the latter half of the year, we'll be starting up a fun blog/news section with feature articles on our past events and activities, teasers and behind-the-scenes stories for our upcoming events, and other entertaining heads up on activities, people, and news that may interest our readers.  We hope you come back to see our online presence develop.  In the meantime, you can also follow us on Facebook, where we'll be keeping you up to date on WiD's blossoming.  If you're a member, join us on LinkedIn.  It's one of the many Members-Only benefits designed to give you networking connections with other WiD members.  Membership is only $35 for individuals -- click here to join us!
